Reblogged from Things A Nerd Might Know:
LED's (Light Emitting Diode) are everywhere. Rarely will you find an electrical device that doesn't have at least one. They produce a lot of light from a tiny amount of power. So how do they work?
Well, first let's explain what a diode is, then we'll get to light emitting diodes.
A diode is a device which will only allow electric current to flow one way.
Ok, so I may be the only one who didn't understand what makes LEDs work, but this makes it really easy to understand.
